Rival Profiles: Sergeant Dakon, Red Marauders

While eager to remind others of the codex-approved methodology for appropriate camouflage patterns, Dakon recognizes frontline missions limit the utility of such concealment.
*Lords and ladies, crypteks, and chronomancers, welcome Ike to this blog.  He will be posting articles here on occasion; today's article is on his long-lived Sergeant Dakon and his squad.  And now, your feature presentation.*

“The Codex is nothing more and nothing less than the guidebook for making Space Marines the most efficient fighting force in the galaxy. Every word, letter and illustration would be exactly the same if it had been written by Ferrus Manus, Vulcan, or the Emperor himself.”

Dakon is one of the foremost experts of the Codex Astartes among the line officers of the Red Marauders.  He and his squad are exemplary in their execution of codex standard maneuvers, fulfilling tried-and-true tactics with a precision and grace under such trying battlefield conditions that even an Ultramarine would acknowledge their understanding and practice. Whether forming the battle line of a pitched engagement or sweeping through the claustrophobic confines of unmapped catacombs Dakon's squad remain resolute and unflappable in the face of uncertain dangers and certain doom alike.

Such adherence to standardized Codex doctrine is an expression of Dakon's belief that he and his squad are to form the reliable and steady foundation of their brothers. Though Dakon readily volunteers himself and his squad for where the fighting will be fiercest, his squad has a remarkably low casualty rate and a full 26.7% greater overall survival rate then his immediate peers. Dakon knows not to overextend his brothers and further requires that no less than three of his squadmates have had advanced field medicae training in any given deployment. These qualities have seen Dakon's squad form the bedrock of many strike forces, Codex-standard and not, and Brother-Marines transferred or elevated from his squads have regularly received praise for their practiced ease in both tactical analysis and swiftly comprehending complex field stratagems and no matter what their later roles might be.

Dakon uses his tactical acumen to direct his Rhino away from a Wraithguard squad.

As for Dakon himself, his career prior to his achieving the rank of sergeant was humble and, by the standards of Space Marines, unambitious. His most noted qualities were an exacting commitment to his assigned role in the unit, and a persistent interest in how his own role in the wider theater. While he would cultivate this interest all through his career he has yet to actively aspire to command. However, he has seconded himself to Assault, Devastator, Scout, and even Terminator squads as much to prevent his own complacency as to broaden his battlefield experience and understanding.

Upon initiation a newly minted Red Marauder will remove whatever part of their body that they feel is the weakest as an echo of the tradition of the chapter’s Iron Hand primogenitors, defaulting to the traditional left hand should no obvious flaw be apparent. Upon his own initiation, Dakon had announced that he wanted his skull to be replaced with an Adamantium replacement.  While not as straightforward as gouging out a sickly eye or hacking off a limb, it was decided that he would perform the first step of the procedure himself by flaying the skin from his own face and scalp. He requested only the scalpel and a pair of mirrors with which to see the back of his own head in order to perform the cuts to his rear cranium. The augment took to him perfectly. With latter enhancements to his ear canals and optic nerves combined with implanted blast-lenses over his eyes allowing him to operate with little need for a helmet, allowing him to see the world without concern for grime coated lenses or dust fouled audio receptors. The regular replacement of the dermal plastic covering his head due to accumulated shrapnel damage is seen as a simple matter of regular and necessary maintenance by both himself and the Apothecarion.
